GlycoMarine, a well researched natural anti-inflammatory compound, is a proprietary glycogen complex targeting arthritis pain and joint disease. Marine Nutriceutical Corporation has pooled a large body of laboratory and independent clinical research including double blind placebo controlled studies focused on GlycoMarine. Within the past twenty-five years scientists have determined the product's mode of action and efficacy. GlycoMarine is extracted from the New Zealand green lipped mussel, Perna canaliculus. At 18 months of age, the mussels are harvested exclusively from the Coromandel Coast. Within two hours of harvest, the living mussels are placed directly into the hydro-extraction process. This quick transfer from harvest to extraction is critical because the active components degrade extremely rapidly if the mussel is permitted to die. The extract is then snap-frozen and freeze-dried, producing the highest quality bioactive compound possible. In this dehydrated state, GlycoMarine is quite stable. The product is extensively used for the treatment of rheumatoid and osteo forms of arthritic disorders in humans and animals. It is classed as a nutriceutical and has the backing of 30 years of peer-reviewed research to support its pharmacological activity. The main reason for its extensive use is that it is an effective natural anti-inflammatory with chondroprotective and selective cyclo-oxygenase COX-2 inhibitory properties, allowing it to be used on a long term basis without the complication of significant adverse side effects.

Pharmacological Functions:

1. Anti-inflammatory: Inhibition of a number of pro-inflammatory neutrophil functions including, neutrophil emigration, catabolic cytokines and mediation of T-lymphocyte activity. These functions are a response to the carbohydrate component of the extract.
2. Anti-inflammatory: Inhibition of the cyclo-oxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase enzymic cascade with COX-2 selectivity. These functions are a response to the lipid component of the extract.
3. Gastroprotective: Protection of the stomach from the ulcerogenic effects of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This activity is a response to the lipid component of the extract.
4. Chondroprotective: Inhibition of catabolic degradation of articular cartilage and enhancement of lubrication and buffering in the arthritic joint. This activity is a response to the amino acid and glycosaminoglycan content of the extract.
5. Pain relief: Due to the inhibition of pain sensitizing prostaglandins produced in the cyclo-oxygenase cascade, a degree of pain relief is effected.

Other competition may also come from look-a-like mussel powders. The certified anti-inflammatory activity of each batch differentiates GlycoMarine from imitation products. The relative efficacy of the product combined with its lack of significant adverse side effects and natural origin provides a strong competitive advantage.

Unfortunately, imitation products do not provide the same beneficial properties as GlycoMarine. Arthritis sufferers may be wasting money on products that provide no therapeutic value whatsoever! Typically, the consumer is unable to recognize by appearance, smell or even by nutritional analysis whether a product is genuine active extract or simply freeze-dried (lyophilised) whole mussel meats ground into a powder. These imitation products are nothing more than simple freeze dried whole mussel powder which contains only a miniscule amount of active compound. Moreover, because the whole mussel powders are prepared from dead mussels, even the small amount of active ingredient present degrades into ineffectiveness. Therefore, it is much less effective than the complete extract. We feel very strongly that people suffering debilitating conditions such as arthritis, should not be paying for products which lead to false hope and eventual disappointment.
